Man of Steel film review in West Coast Midnight Run

and realistic at some point it becomes unnerving for the viewer. There are lots of problems with the story but the pace is so sharp and brisk, the theater audience is just catapulted from one situation to the next.

For instance the Man of Steel destroys with his bare hands a Kryptonian-made droid, the metal on Earth is super metal so his fists would be the same as any normal person from Earth slamming a metal droid. You would not be able to pulverize the materials with your hands.

That’s a minor issue if you are willing to dispense with the logic and keep up

with the story. Another issue is the Clark Kent identity, a staple of the Superman movies, comics and TV series including Smallville.

In Man of Steel, Kal El aka Clark are already identified as having peformed heroic and superhuman deeds before Superman shows up in costume. When the film’s closing scene rolls in, Perry White introduces Clark to Lois Lane (whom she already pegged as Superman) but then many eyewitnesses have already seen Kal El in super action as Clark without the glasses.

There is an element of Oliver Queen/ Green Arrow in that the secret identity

is not really part of the storyline here.

In the DC comics version of Green Arrow, Oliver is an older billionaire version of Bruce Wayne/Batman that wears his mask as Arrow but all the citizens of Star City know who he is and he just could care less.

For Oliver Queen the mask is just part of the fashion trends and hip styling and he could fight evil with or without a secret identity.

This concept from an earlier era of DC Comics appears to have migrated safely with the latest Man of Steel incarnation.

so when the energy explosions, rocket fire and missiles started going off the were was nowhere to go with the audio levels. Based on how loud each punch and kick sounded, you would have thought the walls of the theaters should have buckled with the explosions and that was impossible of course. A little scale in the sound output levels would have been nice.

If you are a science-fiction film moviegoer you might realize that this film is a trifle similar to JJ Abrams’ Star Trek of 2009. Zod and his army

are almost a retake of Nero, a Romulan commander that threatens the United Federation of Planets and Earth with vastly superior technologies and spaceships from the future.

Once more, this is not Kirk and Spock and it’s not The Avengers, it’s only the mightiest superhero on our planet and possibly in the galaxy that takes issue with the entire plan.

The battle sequences are massive, devastating and gruesome. At one point you wonder if the entire planet may not

be ripped to shreds. You could say this is one aspect of the film where the producers and directors did not skimp on the budget whatsoever.

Warner Brothers must have been watching the competition and this movie is not Iron Man in a battle suit with rockets, this is the Man of Steel.

The movie makes you contemplate what it would be really like to have a super threat to Humanity and have the world’s mightiest hero confront it head on. The battle sequences are so gritty
