For industry watchers the punk rock/ alternate pop scene is now an obvious music category with guaranteed reve- nue streams which will see many new- comers after Stefani and her team. The music industry will continue to learn from its mistakes and will re-in- troduce new players and artists with an even more effective popular ap- peal. We definitely expect to see a third generation Madonna after Lady Gaga has had her turn at the stage. How will the third hybrid reincarnation of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper shape up artistically and culturally? Something we won't know for now.
When a few of my colleagues became aware of the Verizon Chocolate commercials in 2010, some initially jumped to the conclusion it was Lady Gaga on the soundtrack.
But it was in fact Goldfrapp with Strict Machine. An interesting bit of trivia? If you listen carefully to Strict Machine and then play a golden oldie, Heart of Glass from Blondie with Debbie Harry, the sound is unmistakable and the similarities astounding.
Is Gaga strange? Really?... This would be an odd question in a world where the entertainment industry has often been said to be a fickle, narcissistic, contrived creature that has somehow survived and endured for ages. Is this a contradiction in itself? OMC, otherwise known as the Otara Millionaires Club from New Zealand, might play for us their hit 1990s single, How Bizarre!
"No matter what happens, I'm prepared to go down with the ship," Lady Gaga affirms to USA Today.
